I’m sure everybody has heard or read Aesop’s Fable of the Tortoise and the Hare. Life can seem like the Hare much of the time- rushing past at the speed of light. Scoliosis, on the other hand, is slow and tedious like the tortoise. Wearing a brace EVERY day and then doing therapy EVERY night, can seem to drag on infinitely, while the rest of life rushes past us. This seems pretty miserable until you realize that life isn’t meant to go by in a blur. Life’s about the journey, and every second counts in that journey. When you have scoliosis, it is part of your journey. So, don’t wish for every second used doing therapy, getting x-rays, or wearing a back brace to rush by because in the end sometimes to get the best results we have to go slow and easy like the tortoise.

Hey Young Lady: Your thought process seems to me to be very wise. Life can become a blur if we don’t allow ourselves to smell the roses and the coffee and the many other sights, sounds and aromas the Good Lord created for our enjoyment. Pacing oneself is important as well as accepting some inconveniences and hardships as crucial elements of life. Live and learn while being positive yet realistic… the searching for a silver lining and most importantly giving the Lord Jesus His attention… and the fruits of the Spirit will help to make every situation not only bearable but prosperous to your soul, spirit and physical body. Quality of life is what you make it to be and attitude and effort can help overcome circumstances. All my love, hope, respect and lots of prayer to you and your friends in your continuing Dance with Scoliosis! Bye for now.
